The Oude Kerk (Old Church) is both the city’s oldest extant building and its oldest church. Its core was consecrated in 1306, though additions began only fifty years later and would continue through 1460. Many Amsterdammers throughout history were baptized, married, or buried here, the famous and the forgotten alike. Not only is Catherina Questiers (referenced in location #1, LGBT+) buried here, but her first published poem was an elegy she wrote after seeing poet Maria Tesselschade buried here.
